NETWORKING ACTIVITIES

GOLF
The Club's two 18-hole golf courses were designed originally by Bob Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin in 1969 and the championship quality and caliber of both the Dolphin and Hammock courses challenge players of all levels. Both courses are in great condition, but offer distinctly different tests of golf.

DEEP SEA FISHING

Charter boats primarily fish for sailfish, using live bait on light tackle. Catching the baitfish (balao) on the way out to the deep water is an interesting part of your adventure. The balao are chummed up to the surface, where they are caught by cast net or by fishing for them using tiny hair hooks. Once the baitwell is full, the boat runs to the outside edge of the reef.  Marlin, kingfish, wahoo, tuna, mackerel, amberjack, cobia, shark, grouper and mutton snapper also are commonly caught.

SPA

The Salon at the Ocean Reef Club Fitness Center offers a variety of spa and personal services, including facials, body treatments such as salt glows and scrubs, mud wraps, detox-seaweed wraps, custom ampoule treatments, facial mask treatments, dermabrasion, massage, aquassage, hot rock therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, manicures, and pedicures.

SNORKELING

Enjoy snorkeling on the only living coral reef in the continental United States.

  Key Largo
Centuries ago, fierce pirates in galleons and privateers in barkentines sailed past this spot of coral land, leaving a capricious legacy. Vessels, heavily laden with jewels and Spanish gold (plundered from the New World) plied the Keys coastline. The Gulf Stream, main sea lane for the treasure fleets, lured all sorts of pirates. They awaited their victims in the narrow channels between the Keys, then swooped down on European-bound ships, robbing them of their rich cargos. Notorious pirates, such as Blackbeard and Gasparilla, carved their niche in the history of the Florida Keys. Caesar’s Creek, just north of Ocean Reef, was named for one such infamous renegade - Black Caesar.

During the early 1800s, the Keys became a mecca for “wreckers”, a hardy group of sailors who salvaged shipwrecks. Today, divers can see valid testimonials to the demise of many proud ships in the shallow, clear waters along the reefs. As times passed, Spain, England and finally -- the United States -- claimed the coral-encrusted islands. Each country left its mark. The native Indians and pirates were finally routed and the tropical islands slowly began to establish themselves.
